Bryson DeChambeau’s remarkable surge up the Official World Gold Ranking (OWGR) continued on Monday, when he re-entered the top ten for the first time in two years after winning the U.S. Open.
DeChambeau won the second U.S. Open of his career on Sunday, defeating Rory McIlroy in an epic fight at Pinehurst No. 2. The LIV Golf star began the final round in North Carolina with a three-shot lead, but he still had work to do down the stretch.
DeChambeau, however, seized full advantage, making a spectacular up-and-down for par from the sand on the 18th to win by one stroke. The triumph continued the Crushers captain’s strong success on the major stage in 2024, which included being tied-sixth at the Masters and runner-up at the PGA Championship.
DeChambeau dropped to 214th in the global rankings in 2023, after previously being fourth on the PGA Tour. Only two months ago, the LIV star was ranked 210th in the world, but he has now risen dramatically owing to his excellent form.
Following Monday morning’s rankings revisions, DeChambeau moved up to 10th place, becoming the second LIV star in the top ten, joining Legion XIII leader Jon Rahm. The American has been a polarizing character throughout his professional playing career, but he has recently emerged as a fan favourite.
This was evident in North Carolina, as the home American fans supported DeChambeau throughout the week. In his victory speech on the 18th green, he praised them, saying, “What it means. I haven’t really let it sink in yet.Tonight, I want everyone of you to touch this trophy in some way so that you may understand how it feels for me.
