When the Cowboys head to Atlanta for their Week 9 game, they may wish to leave some baggage behind.
Specifically, they aren’t very good when they face the Falcons in Georgia, at least during the regular season.
Dallas is 2-0 in the postseason while playing in Georgia, however. They defeated the Falcons in the 1980 playoffs.
in the end of the 1993 season, they defeated the Bills in Super Bowl XXVIII in the Georgia Dome to capture their second consecutive championship.
But what about in a regular-season matchup versus the Falcons? The Cowboys will enter Week 9 with a 7-7 record in Georgia.
To make matters worse, they have a dismal track record in Week 9 games.
The Cowboys have lost the previous three games played in the ninth week. And this is only one of two weeks in which they have a losing record overall.
Not a good omen to bring along on the journey east.
Against the Falcons
Overall versus Atlanta Dallas is 19-11 overall and 17-11 in regular season games. They are 11-4 at home and 10-4 in the regular season.
The two clubs first clashed in Atlanta in 1966, when Atlanta joined the NFL.
Dallas led the Falcons 7-0 in the first quarter before cruising to a 47-14 win. Chuck Howley returned a fumble 97 yards for a touchdown late in the game.
When the teams played again the following year in the Cotton Bowl, the Cowboys jumped out to a 28-0 lead, with Lee Roy Jordan picking up a 33-yard pick six in a 37-7 victory.
Dallas would win the first five meetings and eight out of the first nine overall.
The Falcons ultimately broke through in 1976, with a 17-10 victory in Atlanta.
The Cowboys would beat Atlanta 2-0 in the Cotton Bowl and 6-3 at Texas Stadium. Atlanta’s first victory in Dallas came in back-to-back games in 1986 and 1987.
