The Chicago Bears and their supporters eagerly await the NFL Draft, which commences in just over two weeks. Holding the number one overall pick, acquired through a trade with the Carolina Panthers, the Bears are expected to select former USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams.
The Panthers, with the worst record in the NFL, secured the Bears’ top spot. Despite a rocky start, the Bears, in need of consistent quarterback performance, traded former starter Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason.
Williams, potentially the Bears’ new quarterback, receives advice from his future teammate, defensive end Montez Sweat. On the Green Light With Chris Long podcast, Sweat advises Williams to remain true to himself, not to feel pressured to excel overnight, and to stay humble, acknowledging the support of his teammates.
Described as a “talented guy” by Sweat, Williams is considered a generational prospect. Had he been eligible last year, he might have been the top pick, fresh off winning the Heisman Trophy under coach Lincoln Riley at USC, following Riley from Oklahoma the previous season. With a blend of speed, arm strength, and accuracy, Williams is compared to NFL stars like Patrick Mahomes and fits the mold of the modern quarterback prototype.
