There are just a few days left before Caleb Williams becomes the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. The former USC standout will be Chicago’s pick at number one overall in the 2024 NFL Draft when the franchise is on the clock this Thursday night.
On that front, there’s none drama at all. What Chicago will do with its second first-round pick (ninth overall) is the bigger question. After the first round, general manager Ryan Pace and company only have two more picks (75th and 122nd overall).
It is currently anticipated that Chicago will drop from its ninth-round pick in order to choose additional players later in the NFL Draft.
Regarding the Bears’ intentions, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated stated, “Other teams have gotten the sense that Chicago will try to move down given their dearth of picks.”
Unless the Bears are able to acquire one of the best wide receivers, it makes complete logic to trade this selection. Some believe they could move in that direction to assist Williams in getting additional weaponry.
Recall that earlier in the offseason, Chicago acquired standout wide receiver Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers in a trade. In the passing game, he and fellow Pro Bowler D.J. Moore will provide Williams two outstanding receivers.
Basically, everything will depend on how the board proceeds. Chicago will be able to move back some and land a hefty bounty if one of the top quarterbacks is still available at nine. The Denver Broncos (12th), Las Vegas Raiders (13th), and Minnesota Vikings (11th) have all been mentioned as possible trade ups for a quarterback.
