The Philadelphia Eagles have solidified Jalen Hurts‘ blindside protection for the foreseeable future by locking in left tackle Jordan Mailata with a three-year, $66 million extension that extends his contract through 2028.
Expressing his gratitude, Mailata stated during his press conference on Friday that it’s a privilege to remain with the team long-term and contribute to its culture and legacy. He credited the organization for the opportunity.
Mailata’s journey from Australia to the NFL is remarkable, transitioning from rugby to professional football through the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. Despite facing back injuries in his early seasons, Mailata made significant strides, securing his first start in 2020 and becoming a consistent starter since 2021, tallying 47 starts over the last three seasons.
Acknowledging the role of his run game coordinator and offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, Mailata attributed much of his success to Stoutland’s coaching and the team’s culture.
With his performance steadily improving each season, Mailata’s new contract places him among the league’s top left tackles in terms of salary. As Jason Kelce retires, Mailata looks forward to assuming a leadership role in the upcoming 2024 season, eager to contribute to the team’s growth and success.
