The 49ers’ Brock Purdy receives $739K in NFL performance compensation.

The NFL gave players an extra $393.8 million in performance-based compensation this year in preparation for the 2023 campaign. With the goal of rewarding players who went above and above what was required of them by contract, the program pays players according to their playing time and compensation levels.

2024 San Francisco 49ers NFL Draft guide: selections, projections, and essential requirements (paywall)

“The 49ers may select a player to compete with McKivitz now and possibly replace Williams later by taking advantage of an exceptionally strong draft class at the position. In an attempt to choose a tackle they like, the 49ers may even trade up into the first round.

How 49ers are expected to use the No. 31 draft choice by NFL analysts

Coper DeJean of Iowa has a skill set that makes him difficult to project for the NFL. With his strength in run support and efficiency as a slot defender, he could definitely succeed as a hybrid safety.

Nonetheless, he might develop into a strong outside zone corner, which would suit the Niners’ zone-heavy defensive approach. DeJean can scream downhill when the action is in front of him and possesses excellent ball skills.

“Talanoa Hufanga and Ji’Ayir Brown make for a potentially excellent starting safety tandem going forward, but DeJean’s versatility and playmaking ability could help this defense’s back end become even more formidable.”

49ers-only 7-round estimates for the NFL mock draft.

The 49ers don’t have the best situation because they need tackle help desperately and because choosing Powers-Johnson is more about choosing the “best player available” than it is about meeting needs. The 49ers may try Powers-Johnson at right guard until Brendel’s contract expires, or Powers-Johnson could play center and let Jake Brendel compete at that position.

Josh Dobbs commends Brock Purdy and explains why he signed with the 49ers.

When free agency arrived, I took advantage of the opportunities that were offered. My main goal was to join a team that consistently develops quarterbacks, has a front office that is reliable, a coaching staff that is reliable, and allows me to spend an entire offseason in one season.

Because of this, I’m excited to visit there in April, spend time with some amazing coaches, study the playbook from the ground up, throw routes in the air, and develop those interpersonal relationships with teammates. And then be able to start the season and play whatever position is assigned to them in the room. Brock is obviously having a great time, and what they accomplished in the last four years—winning the Super Bowl only twice—is incredible. However, I’m incredibly pleased to be a part of that franchise and culture.
