It’s thought thats have given up on pursuing one of their major transfer targets.
It was rumored that Chiefs and rival Orlando Pirates were vying for Chippa United goalie Stanley Nwabali, a Nigerian international.
Nwabali, who is currently employed by the Eastern Cape team, surprised everyone by being selected as Nigeria’s first pick for the Afcon. This was because, before the showcase, he had only one cap for the Super Eagles. In the end, he would play every one of Nigeria’s seven games in Ivory Coast, recording four clean sheets. He was also a major factor in the team’s tournament runner-up performance. Additionally, that caused his renown and brand to soar, with more European.
Beyond European curiosity, it was also thought the Chiefs’ bitter adversaries, the Pirates, had entered the competition. In fact, according to this publication, they were prepared to trade Nwabali for Ghana’s top player, Richard Ofori. It is believed that there was a cash exchange in that transaction. It appears that Amakhosi will not be willing to match the Buccaneers’ tactics, whatever they may end up doing in their chase.
Chippa has reportedly placed an R30 million price tag on Nwabali, according to Soccer-Laduma. Chiefs withdrew as a result of that.
It is well known that Chiefs have been considering their possibilities for a prospective goalkeeper for the upcoming campaign. One of the guys the club has been keeping an eye on is Stanley Nwabali. In the same manner as they did with Daniel Akpeyi a few seasons prior, they had intended to entice him.
However, it appears that there is a problem because Chippa is trying to profit from the player (Nwabali). He excelled at Afcon. He’s their most valuable asset. Not many clubs, especially in South Africa, will be able to afford him at the club’s asking price of almost R30 million. Bruce Bvuma has been playing well lately, and Brandon Petersen is also in line for a chance, which is fantastic news for the Chiefs. According to the source, the Chiefs may choose to search for a young goalkeeper who can serve as a backup as both players recently inked contract extensions.
Chiefs have given the impression that they are out, but Pirates can try to capitalize on their positive relationship with Chippa. They might be able to pay for Nwabali through player exchanges or a price decrease as a result.
