Connor Williams,
a former starter for the Miami Dolphins, is still looking for a new team. Before spending the last two seasons in Miami, the former offensive tackle for the Dolphins began his career with the Dallas Cowboys. Sports Grid’s Zack Cook projects that Williams will sign a free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Connor Williams has struggled greatly with injuries thus far. Even though he still has potential, his inability to find new employment has been hampered by his injuries. Williams appeared in just nine games for the Dolphins in 2023, although he started 17 of them during the previous season. He has participated in at least 16 games in three of the last four seasons.
Williams suffered an ACL tear for the Miami Dolphins in December 2023, putting his availability for the start of the 2024 season in jeopardy. Because of the injuries he incurred, the Pittsburgh Steelers and other teams may be waiting to hear his decision.
Williams’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, appeared on “The Joe Rose Show” in February and stated that they will take their time making a decision. “I do think that we’re going to be very methodical and take our time relative to the contract,” Rosenhaus told reporters. “A lot of it could be based on how Connor is feeling physically. He may not be a player who signs right away in free agency. He may take more time depending on how he feels physically.
“Connor’s predicament is fraught with ambiguity, which will be determined by his emotions. And, honestly, we’ll just take it one day at a time once the offseason begins, but I’m not sure whether that will be handled as quickly as some of the other guys we represent.”
The Pittsburgh Steelers had a need at center heading into the offseason. The Steelers released Mason Cole to free up nearly $5 million in cap space, but they now need a center.
Williams would offer the Miami Dolphins with an above-average center, with a PFF grade of 86.5 in 2023. Williams allowed only one sack on 497 snaps, but was flagged for seven penalties, the sixth most in the NFL.
A return with the Dolphins appears improbable, given they signed Aaron Brewer earlier this offseason to replace Williams. Spotrac calculates Williams’ market value at $13.5 million. Despite its hefty price, the second highest grade center, according to PFF, may be worth it.
