Leicester City is keeping a close eye on Nottingham Forest as they have announced they have begun an appeal against their sentence for breaking financial standards.
When the East Midlands rivals of City violated the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of the Premier League in January, they were fined four points. Following their punishment, Forest fell into the relegation zone, now sitting one point below Luton Town.
After learning on Thursday that the team was accused of violating PSR, City will be keeping a careful eye on the matter. Later, due to suspected violations of the EFL’s financial regulations, Leicester was subject to a transfer embargo.
Should City get promoted back to the Premier League, they might also be subject to a point deduction at the beginning of the next season. Conversely, Forest was given a week to file an appeal after learning that the independent commission had decided to lower the first sentence by two points because of their “exceptional co-operation.”
Nottingham Forest confirmed on Monday that it had filed an appeal against the four-point penalty the Commission had imposed for the Club’s violation of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).” At this moment, the club has decided not to release any additional information.”
In an additional statement from the Premier League, “Nottingham Forest Football Club has appealed the decision.
Everton have also been charged by the Premier League, and were docked 10 points earlier in the season. Their penalty was reduced to six points after an appeal.
After any appeal is lodged, a hearing then takes place in front of an appeals board. The Premier League intend to resolve the cases of both Forest and Everton on May 24 – a week after the season concludes.
