Despite having earlier requested to play, Josh Addo-Carr, the standout winger for the Canterbury Bulldogs, has been formally ruled out of the team’s Round 2 match against the Cronulla Sharks.

Following the captain’s run for the team, coach Cameron Ciraldo announced on Thursday morning that the winger would not be starting the game with his teammates.Bulldogs confirm Addo-Carr's injury status after surprise Gould comment: Team Talk Round 2 - NRL News - Zero Tackle

Considering he was only listed as a reserve in the roster, the Bulldogs will start Blake Wilson and Connor Tracey on the wings as per the schedule for Friday’s game in the Shire, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. (AEDT).

After being cleared of a serious injury that might have kept him out of action for up to two months, Addo-Carr is expected to return to action between Rounds three and five, according to the Bulldogs.

Nevertheless, Phil Gould, the director of football, shocked everyone by speculating that the team’s outstanding winger Josh Addo-Carr would be added late for the Friday night matchup against the Cronulla Sharks.

Gould disclosed on his Six Tackles with Gus podcast, “The coach said yesterday that he’s asked to play and he still thinks he is a chance of playing.”

“I believe they selected the team knowing he would be out, but they left him on the bench just in case.

“It seems improbable and it would be beneficial for him to take a week off to fully recover, but that’s just how the Foxx is.

“He called the coach and stated, ‘No, I’m still eager to visit.'” They’ll probably work things out in the short week that it is.”

If he did indeed make an unexpected comeback, it wouldn’t be the first time the quick winger has done so. He miraculously recovered from a syndesmosis injury the previous year, rejoining the team three weeks early.

“‘Foxx’ is always in good spirits and obviously he’s going to try his best to get out there on the weekend,” teammate Jacob Kiraz stated during a press conference on Wednesday.

“He did it last year … shocked everyone when he came back after four or five weeks, and I know he’s going to put himself in the best position to play.”
