Haason Reddick was not traded by the Philadelphia Eagles to Bryce Huff. That’s precisely how it appeared to be.
Former St. Paul’s Episcopal prep star from Mobile, Huff inked a three-year, $51.1 million deal in March as an NFL free agent, which includes a $16.125 million signing bonus and $34 million in guaranteed money. The pass-rusher was acquired by the Eagles from the New York Jets in the trade.
Philadelphia traded Reddick to the Jets for a conditional third-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, less than three weeks after acquiring Huff.
Throughout his two seasons in Philadelphia, Reddick led the Eagles in sacks (16 in 2022 and 11 in 2023).
Huff demonstrated pass-rush potential in his first three seasons with the Jets after signing from Memphis as an undrafted rookie, recording 7.5 sacks and 22 quarterback hits in limited action. Huff finished 2023 with 10 sacks and 21 QB hits.
During 480 defensive snaps, Huff recorded those stats. In 2023, Reddick made 862 snaps for the Eagles.
During the mandatory minicamp held by Philadelphia, Huff expressed that he was preparing for a more demanding workload in 2024 in the same manner as he has always done so: by focusing on maintaining his strength and conditioning, doing a lot of work to prevent injuries, and keeping extremely attentive to detail. I’ve always approached the game with the mentality that I will give it my all and do everything the coaches ask of me on the field.
Huff added, “I’ve always trained with the mindset that it only takes one play for somebody to get hurt – God forbid – or somebody to miss a game, so I’ve always practiced to be fully prepared for any opportunity, so I’m just taking that same process into this year and playing my role.” Huff added that he’s “not necessarily” feeling more pressure because of his larger contract and more prominent role.
There are other fresh additions to the Philadelphia defense besides Huff. Last season, only two teams allowed more points than the Eagles, and Vic Fangio, the new defensive coordinator for Philadelphia, is new to the organization.
