Last week, the Detroit Lions’ required minicamp came to an end. Although they technically had a few more OTA sessions this week, they were determined to have broken the no-contract rules late last month, therefore they forfeited Monday’s scheduled session.

After minicamp, veteran players left for summer leave, thus this year’s Lions offseason training is almost done. It’s time to focus on training camp and attempt to estimate a 53-man roster based on our current understanding of what we have heard, seen, and assumed to be true.

Here is the Lions’ projected 53-man roster following minicamp, without further ado.

53-man roster prediction for the Detroit Lions following minicamp Quarterbacks (3)

Jared Goff Hooker, Hendon

Nate Sudfeld

With Hooker’s (expected) ups and downs at OTAs, Sudfeld would probably be the Lions’ No. 2 quarterback if the season started right now. It’s expected that Hooker will naturally look more comfortable during training camp, but right now his anointed hold on the spot immediately backing up Goff is somewhat tenuous.

Post-training camp, a Lions’ 53-man roster may very well include only two quarterbacks. But here and now after minicamp, Sudfeld gets retained as Hooker insurance.
