According to the proposed trade, the Charlotte Hornets would send Seth Curry, along with the No. 42 pick and a 2026 second-round pick, to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Jalen Hood-Schifino.
Curry has split his playing time between the Dallas Mavericks and Hornets this season, averaging 5.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. He maintained shooting percentages of 39.2% from the field, 35.2% from beyond the arc, and 90.3% from the free-throw line. Set to turn 34 in August, Curry is slated to earn $4 million next season.
The Lakers, who faced a shortage of shooting, might find Curry’s 43.1% career three-point conversion rate enticing, along with the inclusion of two second-round picks in the trade proposal. This could potentially facilitate future deals, though financial adjustments would be necessary for the Lakers to make the trade feasible.
The analyst also noted that if acquiring Hood-Schifino, drafted by the Lakers with the No. 17 overall pick last year, only requires the Hornets to part with Curry and picks, it would be a favorable move for them. Despite limited playing time in his rookie season, Hood-Schifino’s potential remains high due to his size, playmaking abilities, and aptitude in creating opportunities from pick-and-roll situations.
In the recent playoffs, the Lakers were eliminated in the first round by the Denver Nuggets in five games. They are anticipated to appoint JJ Redick as their new head coach. On the other hand, the Hornets failed to make the playoffs once again, with their last appearance dating back to 2016.
Curry has had stints with multiple teams throughout his career, including the Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and the Hornets. Notably, he is the younger brother of Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry.
