For 2024, the Wolverines will require a new quarterback.
For the past two seasons, the Michigan football team has been lucky to have JJ McCarthy at quarterback, as he has guided the club to numerous victories. McCarthy is now on his way to the NFL, where he will hear his name called on Thursday night early in the NFL Draft. So, a new starting quarterback for the Wolverines is required.
Last Saturday was Michigan football’s spring game, and there is fierce rivalry among the quarterbacks. The struggle between Alex Orji, Jayden Denegal, Jack Tuttle, Davis Warren, and Jaydn Davis for the starting position is expected to extend well into the winter.
On Saturday, all of those guys—aside from Jack Tuttle, who is sidelined due to an injury—were able to get reps. Given that he played well in key situations during the previous season, Alex Orji is predicted to start, and Michigan’s quarterback competition appears to be progressing nicely thus far.
Orji remarked, “I was just telling the other guys that it was pretty on par with how we are and it’s just one of 15 practices.” Errors are bound to occur occasionally. The entire maize and blue setup made it a little more competitive, but overall, I thought it was fantastic, especially from the quarterbacks who are dressed in white. We’re a really close-knit bunch of quarterbacks, so I think it was great to see Davis Warren, Jayden Denegal, Jadyn Davis, and myself out there simply rolling and putting together complete drives. I think that’s fantastic for our room and a credit to how well coach Campbell prepares us.
