The new freshman made a major announcement on Thursday afternoon.

A true freshman who hasn’t played a snap for the Michigan Wolverines, DJ Waller, a former three-star prospect and expected starting cornerback, appeared to be moving as well, one day after Waller entered the transfer portal.

Four-star linebacker Jeremiah Beasley of Belleville, Mich., committed in June of last year. He traveled to Ann Arbor in December and enrolled early to take part in bowl prep while Michigan was heading to a national title.

Between then and spring, Beasley had drawn a lot of favorable attention from the coaching staff, and both Sherrone Moore and recently acquired position coach Brian Jean-Mary were believed to have a bright future for Beasley.

Beasley was rated as the 399th greatest player in the nation, the 36th best linebacker, and the 9th top prospect in Michigan. Beasley attended three consecutive state championship games for Belleville High School. In addition to playing running back and totaling 86 rushes for 893 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, he recorded 120 tackles (57 total) and five sacks.

Beasley was expected to fight for playing time at linebacker behind juniors Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham, as well as freshmen Cole Sullivan, Jimmy Rolder, and others in rotational slots. Mason Curtis is the only linebacker in the 2024 class for the Wolverines now that Beasley is gone.

Beasley had offers from Michigan State, Missouri, Penn State, Pitt, and twenty more universities in addition to the Wolverines.
