When Fabio Silva was set up by Cyriel Dessers to score a Rangers tap-in against Hearts, he inexplicably fell over, leaving Michael Stewart and Ally McCoist puzzled and laughing.
In the last moments of the 2-0 Scottish Cup triumph, the Portuguese seemed to have been given a late third on a platter. The two experts responded in real time on the Premier Sports match broadcast at Hampden Park on April 21.
Both were taken aback that the Nigerian international had missed the chance to score a hat-trick, but they were even more confused when Silva, mocking the replay, collapsed on top of the ball rather than putting it in from close range.
“I think it’s just, I’m trying to defend him, it’s just behind him,” McCoist replied, chuckling. I have to admit that Dessers performs incredibly well. He manages to stay onside on his run and hits it into an area where he believes Silva has a simple tap-in.
However, in a cameo that may have been perceived as him pushing too hard without truly succeeding, he mispronounced his lines and found himself the target of jeers.
Rangers are not likely to be trying to sign him permanently until his form improves rapidly, but it is quite improbable that they could afford to do so.
