MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBRC) – The man federal agents believe set off an improvised explosive device or IED at the Alabama Attorney General’s Office in Montgomery in February was back in court Wednesday.

Kyle Calvert was arraigned, pleading not guilty to possession and malicious use of an explosive.

Calvert will remain in U.S. Marshal  custody throughout the duration of his case. A judge granted the government’s motion to detain Calvert, reporting he’s a safety threat and a flight risk.

Federal officials started looking for a guy in late February who was captured on camera moments before an explosive device went off at the Attorney General’s Office in Montgomery. Using license plate readers, investigators were able to follow Calvert to his Irondale residence, where they made an arrest on April 10.

It’s unclear whether Calvert will face state charges.

No one was injured in the explosion.
