NIL can be a frustrating topic for Michigan football fans. That’s because the Wolverines are still lagging behind lots of other top college football programs.
Instead of being a leader in NIL, the athletic department has been slow to adapt. Things have improved though with the “Champions Circle” and “Valiant” as we have seen with the movement to keep key players around after the 2022 season.
That was the one-more-year fund. Michigan football didn’t have the same exact thing this season but a lot of guys stayed in part, because of better compensation on the NIL front. Some of this is conjecture because we don’t have first-hand knowledge. It’s not like there has been reporting with the exact info of NIL for Michigan and other programs.
Yet, Ohio State has been open about spending millions on players in the transfer portal, as well as keeping players on their own roster. Michigan football is trying to do the same and according to Chris Balas of The Wolverine, the Michigan collectives are trying to ramp things up “significantly.”
That’s good news. The Wolverines could use more NIL support in football and basketball. It sounds like some fundraising events will be planned. Jim Harbaugh took part in the M-Power tour to raise money previously and more of those things could be coming.
