Two Pittsburgh Penguins draft picks have inked amateur tryout contracts with their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre.
Both players—defenseman Kalle Kangas and forward Emil Jarventie—are Finnish nationals and were chosen in the seventh round of last summer’s NHL Draft. They are slated to represent Finland in the Under-20 Five Nations tournament in Slovakia later this month, following their stint in Wilkes-Barre.
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 198 pounds, Kangas recorded four goals and five assists in 40 games with Jokerit in Finland’s Mestis league this season.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Jarventie tallied nine goals and 12 assists in 41 games for KooVee in the Mestis during the 2023-24 campaign. Additionally, he notched a goal in three appearances with Ilves Tampere in the Liiga, Finland’s premier league. Notably, Jarventie is the younger sibling of Ottawa Senators prospect Roby Jarventie.
