Williams had dinner with some players and Bears brass on April 2, and he visited Halas Hall yesterday with his top 30. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network tweeted that Williams’ visit to the top 30 was “probably” his only one. Today, he reiterated that he believes “that is the only one scheduled.”
Rapoport stated earlier today on Path to the Draft, “I think it’s very clear that Caleb Williams would, in fact, like to be in Chicago despite a whole bunch of commentary and speculation otherwise.”
None of that came from him, however there were rumors that he would only play for the Commanders in his hometown and that he ought to pull an Eli and make his way out of Chicago.
Williams stated in an ESPN pre-combine interview, “I’ll be excited if I get drafted by the Bears.” Following that, he stated of Chicago at his combine press conference, “It’s pretty exciting if you can go into a situation like that.”
“It does seem that the Bears are honing in on Caleb Williams,” added Rapoport. “Obviously, there has been no official announcement, no hard groundwork, but it appears to be the current course of events. It appears that Caleb Williams would find that agreeable as well. He will therefore only make one top 30 visit.”
