The Pittsburgh Steelers face four significant gaps as they approach the 2024 NFL Draft, with two of them concerning the offensive line, specifically at center and right tackle (assuming they intend to move Broderick Jones back to his original position on the left).
This has sparked speculation that the Steelers may target Jackson Powers-Johnson, the consensus top-ranked center among NFL draft experts.
However, despite the evident need, Pittsburgh may not address it on Day 1 of the draft. Mark Kaboly of The Athletic suggested on 93.7 The Fan that there’s a buzz indicating the Steelers are considering waiting until Day 2 to draft a center. While this wouldn’t typically be surprising, as centers are rarely selected in the first round, the absence of a center on the Steelers’ current roster after the release of Mason Cole may heighten fans’ urgency to fill the void.
There are several centers who could be suitable options in the second round, including Zach Frazier from WVU, who the Steelers announced they would be hosting for a “local visit” in early March.
It wouldn’t be unexpected if the Steelers opt to use their first-round pick on a tackle to complement second-year OT Broderick Jones, as there are likely to be numerous viable options available at the 20th overall pick.
