Linda Mntambo, a former star of the Orlando Pirates, has revealed how Lehlohonolo Seema took the Buccaneers off guard.
The Orlando Pirates made their comeback to the field on Saturday night when they went to Peter Mokaba Stadium to play Sekhukhune United.
With an assist from Linda Mtambo, Vusumuzi Mncube gave the hosts the lead in the 32nd minute.
The 51st minute saw Mntambo switch from giver to finisher by doubling the lead. A mere five minutes afterward, Orlando Pirates’ Tshegofatso Mabasa pulled one back, but they were unable to complete a comeback, as Sekhukhune United won 2-1.
In the Buccaneers game, Linda Mntambo, a former Orlando Pirates standout, was the man of the match.
He proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium with both his goal and outstanding assist. Before being let go in 2022, Mntambo worked at the Mayfair Club for four years.
Due to the defeat, Sekhukhune United moves up into third place in the log standings, surpassing the Buccaneers. The team of Jose Riveiro falls to fourth.
The former Orlando Pirates player told IDiskiTimes, “It’s five wins in a row, and we keep going, going at training to push harder and focus on the next game, it’s just a collective win.”
“Did you believe the coach when he told you that he would play you as a fake striker, alter the entire system, and play you as a false 9 when he arrived in midweek?
“Coach, I understand that the team comes first; I’m there to play the role,” I said. “Look at what it accomplished for us today—I scored a goal and an assist.”
In other developments, a rival DStv Premiership team has put former Orlando Pirates attacker Gabadinho Mhango on their wanted list.
The Malawian attacker, who is now with struggling Swallows FC, has been linked to a transfer to Sekhukhune United!
Mhango has previously appeared for teams including Bloemfontein Celtic, AmaZulu, Golden Arrows, Bidvest Wits, and Orlando Pirates.
Since moving to South Africa in 2013, the former Orlando Pirates player has scored 66 goals for his team.
Regarding the former Orlando Pirates and Wits player, “Mhango is one of the guys who has been identified as someone who could come and help the team,” a source told Citizen.
“He is a highly skilled striker with extensive experience competing in the DStv Premiership.” He still has a great deal of hunger, as you can see by looking at him now.
It’s not like the squad lacks players who can perform their jobs; competition is just necessary. This is because they see a certain level of relaxation among some gamers due to the lack of completeness.
“The team is quite large, with around 40 players on it. However, some individuals are not participating. The team needs to be strengthened because so much has been invested in it. Regarding the former Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates star, a source continued.
