On Monday, Barcelona President Joan Laporta shocked a lot of people by announcing that they had the funds to sign Athletic Club’s Nico Williams. Williams is reportedly their primary goal, although there are many other bidders and a €58 million release clause

.According to Marca, Paris Saint-Germain is also able to enter the race to recruit him, and Bayern Munich has also joined the list of teams interested in doing so this summer. Williams has been strongly linked to Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool in recent weeks. Some have even said that Mikel Arteta favors Williams over other targets that Arsenal is considering.

Williams has publicly stated that he has told his agency that he does not want to hear anything about his future while he is at Euro 2024, but El Chiringuito reports that he has told the agent “not to do anything silly.”According to what Matteo Moretto told Football España, Williams wants to stay in Spain, which gives Barcelona the “advantage” over all other suitors. The 21-year-old is in favor of moving to Barcelona because he has many friends there, but he does note that, despite Laporta’s assertions, Barcelona will find the deal to be “difficult to do” financially. According to Moretto, they will need a sale completed before Williams gets there.
