Everton fans love a working class hero, and they’re getting exactly that with new striker Beto.

The 25-year-old has joined the Premier League side in a £25.75million deal from Serie A side Udinese, bringing plenty of promise from his spell in Italy.

Beto joined Everton in a big money move and has come a long way since his time at the bottom of the football pyramid in Portugal

In 65 appearances, Beto scored 22 goals, earning him a call up to Portugal’s preliminary World Cup squad, but ultimately failed to make the cut for Qatar.

Even being close was a remarkable climb, though, for a player who only turned professional less than four years earlier.

Born in Lisbon, the 6ft 4in forward was playing in Portugal’s regional leagues until 2019 with Uniao Tires and he had to maintain a second job to keep himself going.

“I was training with Tires and working in Portugal, it was a nice life,” he said.
