“Steve Cohen is simply not who or what you thought he would be … it would have been great for New York,” Tierney said via Audacy. The first, second, and third thing we were all fed up and down with was that he would bring in all or at least some of the big free agents. He’s got none. The one guy he brought in and gave a ridiculous contract to is basically half-washed.”

Tierney was most likely referencing shortstop Francisco Lindor, whom the Mets traded for in January 2021 and signed a 10-year, $341 million extension months later. Lindor is batting .203/274/.360 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs in 49 games, though he is coming off two consecutive seasons in which his offense was 20% better than league average as calculated by OPS+. He also finished ninth in MVP voting in 2022 and 2023

The other day, when Steve Cohen said that the Mets are a playoff team, it tells me that he has no clue what he’s watching. Steve Cohen is a problem,” Tierney said.

Cohen told SNY’s Andy Martino on May 16 that he believes in the team and “fully expects” them to make the playoffs. But with the way the team is currently performing, the Mets could be on a path to missing the playoffs for the second season in a row. The Mets are 21-28 and have won three of their past 13 games.
