Najee Harris, a running back for the Steelers, would be a great fit for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys would acquire Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round selection pick, according to a trade proposal put out by Alex Kay of Bleacher Report. Kay notes that because Pittsburgh rejected Harris’ fifth-year option, he will probably be playing his final season there. He is currently in the last year of a rookie contract worth $13 million, which spans four years.
They can then get ahead of the curve and obtain compensation by dealing Harris before he possibly goes in free agency during the upcoming summer.
According to Kay, “it appears likely that Harris’ 2024 campaign will be his final in western Pennsylvania, considering the Steelers declined his fifth-year option.” “Pittsburgh’s brass could get ahead of the departure by securing some 2025 draft compensation for his services, rather than losing him for potentially nothing next spring—and a lowly compensatory draft selection at best.”
Since joining the NFL in 2021, the former first-round draft pick has shown to be one of the most reliable running backs. Throughout his first three seasons in the NFL, Harris has amassed over 1,000 yards of rushing yards. In that time frame, he is second in carries (834), just behind Derrick Henry, and has the fourth-most rushing yards of any running back in the NFL.
Nonetheless, Harris’s average of 3.9 yards per run is among the lowest for a player at this position.
Having said that, the Cowboys don’t have many strong choices for their starting running back position. Dallas did not choose a runner during the whole 2024 NFL draft. They also recruited veteran Royce Freeman and former running back Ezekiel Elliott, who now leads the NFL in carries.
