Breakfast With Benz NFL Draft preview: 'Awesome' receiver class awaits Steelers to address significant need | TribLIVE.com

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen in lieu of Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitch Trubisky, are not expected to select a quarterback of note in this weekend’s NFL Draft.

This does not, however, imply that the Steelers will not be impacted by the quarterback draft market over the first two days of the NFL Draft this year. Ultimately, by the time the Steelers select at No. 20, more tackles, centers, wide receivers, defensive backs, and defensive linemen will still be available due to the fact that more quarterbacks will be selected by other teams.

QBs might be selected at least four choices before of the Steelers spot, according to former NFL player and college scout Matt Williamson of Steelers Nation Radio, who joins us for our final NFL Draft preview podcast. Both head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan would be delighted to hear it.

According to Williamson, “people are talking about it like it’s a historic (QB class).” We may even select four players among the top four. Four of them, I believe, will be in the top six. Four will be gone before pick twenty, I promise. I think it’s doubtful, but I’m hoping for five or six.

Caleb Williams of USC, Jayden Daniels of LSU, Drake Maye of CCCa, and J.J. McCarthy of Michigan are those four players.Bo Nix of Oregon and Michael Penix of Washington are the next two. Some believed that the Steelers should concentrate on picking one of those two quarterbacks and forego signing Wilson and Fields.

Williamson stated, “My theory about quarterbacks is that I am swinging for the fences as hard as I can.” If I keep failing, then so be it. I picked Pickett at No. 20 in 2022, and at the time, I had no issues with it. But I want a bigger upside than him, much more so now. Give me the hardest-working, most talented guy. Give him a lot of patience and place him in a favorable circumstance. And neither Nix nor Penix, in my opinion, reach that degree.
