Although he and the Wolverines are not currently considering importing a quarterback, offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell stated that Michigan football will attempt to add wide receivers in the Transfer Portal.
Speaking with media on Saturday afternoon following the Spring Game, Campbell emphasized that Michigan has to add more depth at wideout. Just two receivers who had more than five catches in 2023 return to the room after Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson were traded to the NFL.
“I believe we have a few really explosive people. Of course, I believe it’s a really loaded room, too,” Campell remarked. “We need some men to assist over there. I’m not sure how many guys are in that position, but we will definitely look at them.
“To put it simply, we lack numbers. You need enough guys when you consider the depth of the roster. Quad injuries and hamstring strains are inevitable. Thus, all we need to do is ensure that we have enough players to fill the roster.”
Although official statistics from Michigan were not kept during the Spring Game, among of the receivers that showed promise were Fred Moore, Tyler Morris, and Kendrick Bell. Colston Loveland, Marlin Klein, and Deakon Tonielli were among the tight ends who made contributions as pass catchers.
