The Pittsburgh Steelers have undergone a jersey number change, with Kenny Pickett’s No. 8 now belonging to newly signed kicker Matthew Wright, as reported by the NFL Jersey Numbers X account. Pickett had sported No. 8 throughout his tenure in Pittsburgh, from his days at Pitt to his transition to the NFL. Following his trade to the Philadelphia Eagles, he will now wear No. 8
Wright joined the Steelers before OTAs and mini-camp, providing additional kicking depth during offseason workouts. It’s common for teams to bring in two kickers for training camp as a precautionary measure. However, it’s currently not expected that Wright will surpass Chris Boswell for the starting kicker role.
Regarding Pickett, he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round pick and two sixth-round picks after expressing his desire to depart from the Steelers following the acquisition of Russell Wilson. He is now slated to serve as the backup to Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.
