Carlos Alcaraz has opted out of participating in the 2024 Barcelona Open, despite receiving positive test results. The 20-year-old, who was training in Monte Carlo ahead of the ATP Masters 1000 event, decided to withdraw due to discomfort in his right arm. This decision was preceded by an early exit from a practice session in Monte Carlo, indicating potential issues.
Upon returning home, Alcaraz continued practicing in anticipation of the ATP 500 event in Barcelona. However, he faced further setbacks and ultimately withdrew from that tournament as well. Despite reports from Spain refuting claims of injury, Alcaraz clarified during a press conference held in Barcelona, despite his withdrawal, that injury was not the issue.
The primary concern for Alcaraz was his forehand, which he couldn’t execute confidently. Consequently, he made the decision to withdraw from the event, despite having won it two consecutive years prior.
