At Orlando Stadium on Saturday, the Orlando Pirates defeated the unfortunate Golden Arrows 7-1 in their DStv Premiership match.

The Pirates ended a two-game losing streak because they were just unbeatable that day and far superior to their rivals. In addition, it was the first time in the league’s 20 years that the Pirates had won by a six-goal margin.

With the victory, Pirates gained two points, which allowed them close the gap on Stellenbosch FC, who is now in second place on the log, to 37 points.

In just the eleventh minute of the match, Tshegofatso Mabasa scored a goal from inside the box to give the Pirates the lead.

Shortly after, Patrick Maswanganyi passed the ball to Relebohile Mofokeng, who scored from close range to give the hosts a two-point advantage.

Mofokeng discovered Kabelo Dlamini unmarked in the Arrows box shortly after the half-hour mark, and he turned and blasted the ball home to make it 3-0.

Despite leading three goals at the break, the Buccaneers were slightly disappointed as Mofokeng failed to convert a penalty right before halftime.

In the second half, Pirates carried on much the same way, with Mabasa completing his brace when Thabiso Lebitso’s excellent pass found him in close range (4-0).

In the 75th minute, Sandile Mthethwa scored the game’s fifth goal after being given a free header in the Arrows box. The Pirates were clearly superior to their opponents (5-0).

Moments later, Arrows scored a consolation goal, and Lungelo Nguse prevented some embarrassment for his team.

With time nearly up, Karim Kimvuidi darted past the Arrows defense and bounced his shot in against the woodwork, proving that the Pirates were amazingly not finished yet.
