The Green Bay Packers have been surprisingly active in free agency, but they could still pursue veteran talent like 33-year-old cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
Cem Yolbulan from Dairyland Express has listed some available free agents who could fit well with the Packers, all coincidentally Super Bowl champions, such as offensive tackle Donovan Smith and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Notably, Yolbulan highlighted Gilmore as a potential target, suggesting that a short-term deal could benefit both parties.
Interestingly, the Packers previously showed interest in Gilmore, with general manager Brian Gutekunst attempting to acquire him in 2021 when rumors swirled about his potential release from the New England Patriots. Despite Gilmore’s desire to join the Packers, salary cap constraints prevented a deal, leading to the Carolina Panthers trading for him instead.
Since then, Gilmore has had stints with the Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, and Dallas Cowboys, but he remains a free agent despite his impressive track record, which includes a Super Bowl victory, multiple All-Pro selections, Pro Bowl appearances, and the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year award.
At 33 years old, Gilmore may have already reached his peak performance on the field. Nonetheless, he could serve as a seasoned mentor within a locker room predominantly occupied by young and inexperienced players, particularly at the cornerback position aside from Jaire Alexander.
