Michigan goaltender Jake Barczewski and forward Gavin Brindley hold a press conference at the Centene Community Ice Center ahead of the 2024 NCAA Regional in Maryland Heights, Mo.
In Maryland Heights, Missouri, UND and Michigan are set to compete in the NCAA regional at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Centene Community Ice Center.
Here’s a glimpse of Michigan’s perspectives shared during their press conference on Thursday:
Michigan coach Brandon Naurato emphasized the importance of sticking to their team’s identity to counter UND’s shutdown line: “We need to stick to our game plan and play our style—being aggressive off the puck and focusing on offensive zone play.”
Michigan forward Gavin Brindley highlighted the physicality and skill of UND’s lineup: “Expect a hard-hitting game with skilled players on both sides. UND is a formidable opponent, and we’re prepared for the challenge.”
Michigan goalie Jake Barczewski expressed his excitement about playing near his hometown of O’Fallon, Missouri: “While it’s nice to be home, our focus is on the game. I have to block out distractions and perform. It’s a special opportunity, but we’re here to win.”
Brindley commented on the intimate atmosphere of Centene: “Playing in a small arena like Centene reminds me of the energy at Yost Ice Arena. The crowd will be intense, which we thrive on.”
Naurato pointed out UND’s strength in transition: “UND excels in transition plays, especially off the rush. We need to be wary of their ability to create scoring chances.”
Barczewski reflected on his experience playing in NCAA Regionals with Canisius last season: “Last year’s experience was eye-opening for me. But I came to Michigan for moments like these. With a strong team behind me, I’m ready to rise to the occasion.”
Brindley highlighted Michigan’s growth throughout the season: “We’ve made significant strides since Christmas. We’ve been playing playoff-style hockey for months now and are eager for the challenge ahead.”
