Under the guidance of new head coach Sherrone Moore, there’s a renewed sense of hope regarding recruitment. Moore has consistently emphasized his intent to adopt an assertive approach to recruiting and has made notable additions to the recruiting department, including personnel from Georgia.
Yet, it’s evident that the most significant impact has come from the hiring of running backs coach Tony Alford, whom the Wolverines secured from Ohio State. During Mike Hart’s tenure, running back recruitment didn’t reach its potential. While Hart did secure Jordan Marshall from Ohio in the last cycle, his efforts on the recruiting trail seemed lacking in enthusiasm.
It’s important to acknowledge that Mike Hart is a revered figure in Michigan football and a skilled developer. However, in terms of recruiting, the difference between Hart and Alford is stark. Michigan has gained traction with top running backs nationwide and has successfully hosted them on campus.
Recently, highly regarded running back Bo Jackson from Cleveland visited Ann Arbor. Ohio State was initially favored to land Jackson before Alford’s departure, but now his recruitment seems more open, with Michigan emerging as a serious contender. While winning this recruitment will be challenging, Alford’s presence has given Michigan a fighting chance.
Before Alford’s arrival, Ohio State seemed to be the primary contender for Jackson. However, now Michigan is in the mix, with a chance to secure an official visit from Jackson, which could significantly bolster its chances of landing the talented prospect.
