Leicester City may need to sell players to balance the books in order to avoid potentially losing points when they return to the Premier League, according to the most recent transfer news.
With a potential points punishment penalty looming, Leicester City’s hopes of avoiding breaking the Premier League profitability and sustainability regulations (PSR) have taken a serious hit.
The Foxes have not yet released their 2022–2023 season financial statements. They lost £125.5 million over the course of the previous two seasons, therefore a profit of more than £20 million would be needed to stay below the threshold.
If City were to return to the top division, it was earlier this month that reports said they would be fined by the Premier League and may suffer a “hefty points deduction” for the following campaign.

Leicester City’s hopes of avoiding breaching Premier League profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) have been handed a significant blow as a possible points deduction penalty looms.
The Foxes are yet to publish their accounts for the 2022/23 season. For the two previous seasons combined, they made losses of £125.5m, meaning a profit of more than £20m would be required to avoid being over the threshold.
Earlier this month, it was reported that City would be charged by the Premier League and could be faced with a ‘hefty points deduction’ for next season, should they return to the top flight.
Ever since the financial difficulties first surfaced, it has come to light that Leicester may need to offload players by June 30 in order to avoid facing PSR violations.
A new fiscal year beginning in July will mean that sales made after June 30 will not be included in the three-year cycle that concludes this year.
But there will be less chance of selling any of their worldwide talents. International managers are expected to deny their squad members entry to the Euro 2024 competition in Germany, as reported by the Daily Mail. According to FA sources cited in the paper, any agent who wants to meet with their player to talk about moves may do so.
Players like Jannik Vestergaard, Danny Ward, and Wout Faes are scheduled to travel to Germany for the competition. Leicester might find it difficult to move any of their international players before June 30, though.
But without having to overcome that, players like Jannik Vestergaard, Harry Souttar, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could be sold to help balance the finances.
How likely do you think Leicester is to offload players before June 30th?
